I recently came across a vinyl record from Fleetwood called Babe Ruth – The Legend Comes to Life, narrated by Curt Gowdy and originally released in 1973. It’s one of those artifacts that captures not just a player’s story, but the mythmaking machine of baseball in full swing. The album weaves narration, play-by-play, and old-time atmosphere into a tribute that feels more like a folk tale than a biography. Listening to Gowdy recount Ruth’s life—his flaws and greatness—reminded me why I love this game and why I do what I do with Baseball Buddha. It’s not just about stats or highlights—it’s about how the legends live on, how we retell their stories, and how baseball becomes part of our personal and cultural memory.
