Daily BB Meditations — A New Season Begins
Slow reflections on baseball, life, spirit, and memory. Beginning May 1st.
I need to begin with an apology.
When I created the Daily BB Meditations, my hope was to offer them as an optional, addition — something you could subscribe to if it felt right. Unfortunately, while learning the Substack platform, they were automatically sent to all Baseball Buddha subscribers. That wasn’t my intention.
If these daily notes aren’t for you, no worries at all — you can easily unsubscribe from just the Daily BB Meditations section. No guilt, no hard feelings. I sincerely apologize for the confusion.
Now, why these meditations exist.
Twelve years ago, I traveled to the Himalayas for a beginner’s Buddhism retreat. I wasn’t looking to change who I was — I just knew the life I was living wasn’t working. What stayed with me from that time was simple advice:
"Take what you need. Leave what you don't. Believe in what makes you happier."
That opened a door. Over time, I found other philosophies — Stoicism taught me resilience; Shinto taught me patience; baseball, the game I grew up loving, taught me to notice life’s sacred, fleeting moments.
Ten years ago, I set out on what I called the Baseball in America Tour: visiting every MLB park, Spring Training, Little League, College World Series, American Legion games — anywhere there was a field, a ball, and a story.
Somewhere along the way, Baseball Buddha was born — the idea that life’s meaning can be found in everyday moments, if we’re willing to pay attention.
The Daily BB Meditations are a continuation of that spirit.
Each meditation is built around a simple structure:
A short memory from a fan’s life
A reflection rooted in Buddhism, Stoicism, or Shinto
A daily takeaway you can carry with you
A journal prompt for deeper thought
All wrapped in the reminder: Honor the Small. Respect the Moment. Trust the Path.
Here’s an example:
The Last Catch of the Season
The gloves are worn,
the balls are scuffed,
the air is colder now.
One last slow toss before winter.
Buddhism
Nothing lasts. The beauty of today is knowing it’s ending.
Daily Takeaway
Hold today's moments lightly. Their leaving makes them sacred.
Journal Prompt
What season of your life is quietly ending?
How can you honor it instead of clinging to it?
Honor the Small. Respect the Moment. Trust the Path.
Starting May 1st, Daily BB Meditations will arrive each morning. If you'd rather not receive them, you can unsubscribe from that section anytime.
Thank you for your patience as I build this project with care — slow, steady, and full of heart.
Thank you for walking even a few steps of the path with me.
Welcome to Daily Baseball Buddha Meditations.

Count me in, Buddha
This is wonderful. I think about both baseball and the Buddha every day so count me in.
