Late innings. The PA announcer had gone quiet between batters. The crowd murmured. A grounds crew member leaned on a rake, watching. Not working. Just watching. He knew the rhythm better than most.

something small I try to do now is leave my phone in my pocket while standing in line at the grocery store and just soak in the sounds and the people... usually there's a small kid smiling at me who I would've missed if I was in my phone. it's good to be bored sometimes!
