I see you sitting there, next to a white lady, your mother-in-law? I look for a ring, you aren’t wearing one. You speak softly to the teenager on the other side of her—your daughter? As I stand in line for coffee, you smile, I smile. I keep looking your way, gazing and pondering, as you slowly look up our eyes meet, you look away.... my heart race…
