River Rat - 4000th Hit
“It’s a nice round number, but I’m still 256 hits away from the real goal.” - Pete Rose
Pete Rose’s 4,000th hit came on April 13, 1984, while he was playing for the Montreal Expos, becoming only the second player in Major League Baseball history to reach this milestone. The hit occurred at Olympic Stadium in Montreal during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Rose's former team. Rose hit a double off Phillies pitcher Jerry Koosman, marking the historic achievement. The crowd at Olympic Stadium gave him a standing ovation as the game was briefly paused to acknowledge the accomplishment. This milestone hit added to Rose's pursuit of Ty Cobb's all-time hit record, which he would eventually break in 1985. Rose ended his career with 4,256 hits, setting a record that remains unbeaten to this day.
