“The Moreno family has concluded that our hearts remain with the Angels, and we are not ready to part ways with the fans, players and our employees.” - Arte Moreno
It's a testimony to how bad some of the other owners are that Arte Moreno isn't last. Wasting the careers of Trout and Ohtani's early years should be enough that he should be forced to sell the team. The only thing I can compare it to are the Detroit Lions wasting the careers of Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson, and they didn't have those players at the same time like the Angels.
Agree. Fan since 1967, so I've seen a lot. Stunning that a player can die while on the roster for misuse of drugs and there is so little impact. The place has been generally mismanaged, which I blame on the owner not hiring well and weighing in at the worse times. But the Skaggs death was horrific and shows among other issues an incredible lack of institutional control. MLB should have taken over the franchise and sold it.
I feel like the Tyler Skaggs death needs to be added into the equation. And it needs to deduct points from the total score. Arte should have known what was going down.
Just reading former Angels’ PR Head Tim Mead’s comments under oath about Tyler’s death demonstrates how effed-up their organization is.
I was lucky enough to be a Cubs fan in the 60’s & 70’s and a Padres fan since Tony Gwynn’s rookie year. I’m 67 but never have seen my team win a World Series. And its fine. Got to see Tony Gwynn’s whole career, and it was amazing! Same with watching Fergie Jenkins, Billy Williams, Ernie Banks and Ron Santo in their prime.
Shed no tears for Angel fans. Seeing Trout & Otahni game after game is a privelege most fans never experience.
You are like my family who are Brewers fans and have not experienced that joy, they hang their hat on Robin Yount like you do with Gwynn. I am glad the Padres have turned their opening week struggles around and hopefully will make it a fun season against my Dodgers.
Ownership had been a mess, but with the mighty Dodgers 30 miles to the north, and the suddenly hip Padres 70 miles to the south, it's rather remarkable that the Angels still average close to 30,000 a game in the 4th oldest stadium, that doesn't have any of the charm or lore of Fenway, Wrigley, or Dodger Stadium. A credit to their loyal fanbase with 2 more popular teams in their front and backyard.

Kinda feels like you took it easy on them for the Tyler Skaggs thing. That felt like institutional rot.
Absolutely

I have something regarding this on Wednesday.

I actually like Angels Stadium, it is a throwback to when a lot stadiums were multipurpose.
